Booking a holiday in 2012 is not like it was twenty years ago. These days more and more holidaymakers are turning to their trusted smartphones to find hotels and flights. At present nearly half the population owns one of these devices which enable them to browse the internet from wherever they might be. Analysis has shown that 17% of the travellers have looked into their prospective holidays by using a Smartphone and a further 12% have downloaded a travel related app.
The proportion of travellers who have actually booked their holiday online is 3% but this looks set to rise significantly over the next 10 years. The changing pattern of travelling is clear to see. Two thirds of respondents say they are likely to research and book their future holidays online via their mobiles. It was also found that three quarters of travellers will use their phones whilst actually on holiday.
